Waking from a Dream « Thread Started on Jun 25, 2010, 12:42pm »
'Twas the very early hours of the morning and usually, Mascamora slept much later, but today was somewhat different. She sleepily opened her eyes, letting out a wide yawn as she lifted her head. She saw easily the forms of her mother and sister lying near her and she smiled. For a moment, her brain was slow, yet suddenly images began coming to her and she found herself quite awake.
Oh! Had it been real, or all a dream? She remembered flashes of lights and the massive form of her shackled father. And then spirits telling her she had the power to redeem him. Surely it had been real. She wasn't quite sure how, but she had to let Lacrimosa know! She leaped to her paws and moved toward her sister, nudging her eagerly.
"Lacri, Lacri," she whispered, hoping to wake her sister but not their mother quite yet. "C'mon, wake up! I have to tell you something. You're so not going to believe this. Lacriiiii." Her tail was wagging and her eyes were alight. She just could not wait to go and test out this newfound power of hers.

Lacrimosa was in a dream of her own. It was no surprise that it involved her crush, Lufelon. "Oh Lufey," she whispered. "I love you." Lufelon's booming voice resonated back to her. "I love you more, my sweet Lacri." But in reality, Lacrimosa was lying on her back with her paws in the air, drooling and giving off a little snore. Every now and then she giggled, and her paw would twitch.
When Mascamora sidled up to her and whispered at her, Lacrimosa's sleeping eyes twitched and she grinned. "Oh, Lufey!" Mascamora persisted to the point that the young Empress slowly opened her eyes.
"Damnit, Masca!" she cursed, rolling over to her paws. "I was having a really good dream, and then you had to go and ruin it!" She grumbled about something or other, but then became distracted by what Mascamora said. "Okay, you got my interest. What is so freaking important that you had to go and wake me up for?"

Mascamora giggled at Lacrimosa mummbling in her sleep. She contemplated whether or not to tease her about it later. But the thought was pushed aside as Lacri began to awake and started cursing at her. Masca rolled her eyes at her sister and snorted. "Yea, okay," she mummbled.
Once Lacri was awake and gave her her attention, however, Masca was back to her excited self. "Well, I just saw Daddy!" She was beside herself and she figured it was best to jump to the point. "I mean.. his spirit. Like in the spirit world." Her tail continued to wag and she eagerly waited for her sister's response. She hoped Lacrimosa would not tell her she was nuts or something else discouraging. She just had a gut feeling that this was way more than a mere dream. Heck, maybe she had discovered something brilliant that she could do that Lacrimosa couldn't. Her mind drifted for a moment with how she would be queen of the spirit world. Let Lacri prance around boasting her empress status here. But she shook her head slightly and focused again on her sister.
"And... guess what," she said after a few moments.

Lacrimosa stared at Mascamora with a deadpan expression as she spoke about her experiences in the so-called Spirit World. The young empress blinked. "No, freaking, WAY," she said, showing what seemed to be sincere shock. "That is SO COOL, Masca. SO COOL." At this point it was obvious that she was being sarcastic. "It's just a DREAM, stupid."

At first Mascamora was hurt, but she was not to be so easily talked out of it. She frowned, her stubborness coming back into play. "You're just jealous." She scowled and sat back slightly. "Look, it was real, okay? And he regrets what he did in life. He wants to come back, and the spirits told me I can do it. Wouldn't you give anything just to meet him, Lacri?" she questioned. Mascamora was determined to gather her sister's support. And if nothing else, she felt now she definitely needed to gather more information from their reluctant mother.

Pale eyes noticed the hurt expression on Mascamora's visage. Dropping her ears, she tried to make atonement for her actions. "Weeell," she said slowly, carefully biding time to think. "Like I said, it was a dream, right? Come on, Masca, you'd be naive to think it was actually real. Maybe it was one of those dreams which you have control over." She picked up her ears again. "Really, just stop and think! What would Mama say if she heard you talk like that?"
At the mention of their father, Lacrimosa dropped her eyes to look at her front paws. She licked one, yet another ruse to buy time. "Not really," she said finally, truth laced in her words. "He's dead, isn't he? He won't be here for us. We already had Uncle Kratos to help raise us, Masca, don't you dare forget him! He was like a father to us!"
She was trying her best to knock some sense into her sister, but knowing her, it would be difficult. Masca was a stubborn pup.
"Now Uncle Charon stepped in to help take care of us. He let Mama stay in Giaku. Both he and Kratos. They protected us from the late Emperor Tartarus's wrath." She thought back on the days when Tartarus looked at them, with murder in his eyes. He did not like the daughters of Endymion lingering in the shadows of Giaku. What would he think now that one of Endymion's daughters took up the throne of Giaku? Oh, Tartarus was currently thrashing savagely in his grave at the mere thought...

Mascamora listened silently as her sister again pushed it off as nothing more than a very vivid dream. Even saying her mother would be against her. She glanced over toward the sleeping form of Moria across the cavern and let out her breath slowly. "I know what I saw," she muttered stubbornly. So, maybe it was futile to try and get her sister to believe her. And she had no idea how to prove it to Lacri. But she knew it in her heart. What she had seen had been way more than a mere lucid dream.
Her attention was turned toward Lacri once more as she answered the question about meeting Endymion. Mascamora was a bit torn. Yes, they loved Kratos a great deal and even now missed him. At the memory she again appeared hurt. "Lacri, I wasn't suggesting anyone could replace Kratos or his value to us. It's just... there's nothing wrong with having a curiosity about your own flesh and blood." Not that Kratos wasn't... she was silenced as Lacrimosa carried on about Charon and Tartarus and all that. Yes, Mascamora knew the story she didn't need it repeated to her in a scolding lecture... especially by her younger sister, superior in rank or not.
She scowled once again and sat back further. "Fine. You win," she stated. She hoped it satisfied Lacrimosa. She glanced once more toward their mother. "What about at least asking mom again? Can't we see if she'll tell us anything more?"
She released a small sigh and looked at Lacrimosa pleadingly. Though Mascamora acted defeated enough, Lacri's thoughts were true.. she was a stubborn pup. She would allow Lacri to think she had given in, but on her own she woud pursue their father. She was determined to prove herself, and this was the perfect opportunity. If Lacri wouldn't support her, then she could do it herself! But first, she waited to see if Lacrimosa would agree to at least talking with their mother.

Lacrimosa studied her sister. There was something she did not like in the way she gave in so easily. Giving a stiff nod, she said, "Okay, alright." But she continued to watch her, unable to suppress the feeling that Mascamora was lying.
When Mascamora suggested that they ask Mama one more time, Lacrimosa heaved an incredulous sigh. "Okay! But you know she's not gonna tell us anything. And honestly I think it would be better if we didn't press the matter. If Mama doesn't want to tell us about Endymion, then I'm sure there's a very good reason why. I mean, wasn't he really bad?" She thought of Mascamora's dream, and how she might have wanted to believe that their father had a good soul. Then she thought of how other wolves berated her and sister for being a direct link to Endymion.

Mascamora grinned and wagged her tail a bit when Lacrimosa said they could ask again. Yes, she very well knew Moriâ probably wouldn't tell them much of anything, but maybe just this one time it would be different. She rolled her eyes when Lacrimosa brought up Endymion's bad reputation. "Yea, so? There had to be something good for mama to be so into him like that, right?" She said little more concerning the matter as she bounded toward their mother's form and nudged her gently with a white paw.
"Mama, wake up." She glanced at Lacrimosa as their mother answered, as if expecting her to take charge.
Moriâ shifted slightly and let out a soft groan. She usually liked waking on her own though over the last two years, she had sort of grown accustomed to being woken up on other's schedules. She slowly peaked her eyes open and met the mis-matched eyes of Mascamora and those of Lacrimosa. "What is it, Dear?" she asked somewhat sleepily.

When Moria stirred from sleep, Lacrimosa padded over with a big welcoming grin on her face. She nuzzled her mother lovingly. "Good morning!" She honestly had no idea what the time of day was, but she speculated that it must have been so early that not even the sun had risen yet.
Lacrimosa flopped to the ground and put her head on Mama's tail, looking pointedly at Mascamora. Her eyes clearly said, 'It was your idea, so you tell her.'

Moriâ smiled and licked Lacrimosa affectionately in return of the nuzzling. She turned her focus on Mascamora patiently after observing Lacirmosa's gaze. Obviously the pressure was on Masca though Moriâ was far more patient about it.
Mascamora glared at Lacrimosa before sitting back. She wasn't sure exactly how to bring it up but she did her best. "Well Mama, I had this dream," she decided to say, "about Daddy... and... we wanted to ask if you would tell us about him. Was he really all that terrible?"
Moriâ's eyes changed as her daughter brought up the subject of Endymion... again. Lacrimosa had indeed been correct in that she was not willing to so easily say something on the matter. "Well, Dear," she began hesitantly, "how interesting that you dreamed of him. However, I'm sure it wasn't much for you to worry about. You're father was a great wolf but he is dead now. There's nothing we can do about it." She was trying to be gentle, but well on the subject of Endymion, Moriâ simply had not grasped quite how to handle it correctly. So she avoided it.

"Told you," taunted Lacrimosa, lifting her head to stick her tongue out at her sister. But soon Mascamora's curiosity because Lacrimosa's, too. "So he was a great wolf... but bad? I wonder what those 'great' things were that made him the most hated wolf in the world." She lifted a brow at her sister, as if it was her fault for making her curious. "I know Grandpa hated him. But I always thought it was because Endymion left Giaku." She shrugged, unsure of the history. "Meh, I don't really care to be honest." An outright lie. She was curious, but reluctantly so, only because Mascamora was fervently interested in the whole subject.

Mascamora ignored Lacrimosa's comment and continued to gaze at their mother, a slight look of amusement coming to her face when Lacri was the one who began asking questions. Her eyes were pleading and she put her head on one of Moriâ's paws as if to second Lacrimosa's curiosity.
Moriâ glanced between her daughters and let out a soft sigh. "Tartarus had no reason to hate your father other than being a stubborn control freak. If Tartarus had not been so easily cold, your father might not have hated him so. Nevertheless, it is because of that he was so great. He looked beyond the misunderstanding and hatred of others to reach his own goals." She paused, looking a bit distant for only a moment. "Now, girls, I will say no more. What's in the past should be left there. Why don't you both go back to sleep until dawn?"

"Glady," Lacrimosa said, stifling a yawn and padding off to a soft corner where she could curl up and sleep. "Come on Masca, lets leave these bad thoughts behind."
As Lacrimosa ignored the sounds around her, trying her best to go back to sleep, she couldn't help but wonder...

Mascamora hesitated, but gave in. "Alright, alright, I'm coming," she muttered, following Lacrimosa to where they had lain before. She knew she probably wouldn't go to the same place in sleep again, at least not this night, but she was determined to make a venture come dawn. She would wait till Lacrimosa was off doing something perhaps some duty and she would make her way toward her own goal.
