Oh, What a Sight to See! (Open)
« Thread Started on Jul 26, 2010, 5:05am »

Such a wonderful place to stop and rest. She compared the lake to the sky as she lay content on her back, stomach full from a small, but decent meal. Not minding the sand that was inevitably working its way into her deep red fur, she arched her back this way and that in an attempt to scratch it, a satisfied, playful grunt coming from her in the process.

Were those swans across the way? Her tail wagged as she watched the two swans swim side-by-side in harmony, almost in sync with one another. More birds flew overhead, calling out to their comrades below. The fire in the sky was only moments away from beginning its descent into the lake, the clouds above turning a gorgeous mixture of orange and magenta.

With a sigh, the wolfess wagged her large, bushy tail. What a sight for young Yura to see. Her brother should be here to watch it, but the light grey boy was still sleeping underneath an evergreen tree.

A sniff and a quick glance around. Yura smiled knowingly and rolled over, revealing her left ear to be missing, ripped away, leaving only the base. Her bright white wings--now covered in sand--fluttered lightly. "I know someone's here," she murmured, attempting not to awaken her brother, "Come out so I can see you...feel less threatened."

A fairly big bulk of a wolf stepped onto a wide, grassy knoll. Aside from seeing him give a huge yawn out in the open, not caring what flew in or out of that big ole toothy mouth of his, he looked intriguing to behold. Maybe handsome to some, but too unrefined and wild-looking to others. Being as young as he was, he made his own rules, and lived by them loyally which made him as stubborn as steel.

When his fur was supposed to be white and properly well-groomed, it instead harbored a grayish, dusty look to it. Disheveled wings were planted carelessly at his sides with some bedraggled feathers sticking out, threatening to drop from his shoulders out of sheer laziness. A kind of stench seemed to emanate from his being. It wasn't at all pleasant. It was obvious by now that he did not condone an impeccable taste in hygiene. Supposedly he did keep himself groomed, but one might suspect that he had to be told, or even forced to do it.

Brow-lofting markings covered bits of his face, all teal in color. A single, strange tattoo-like etch popped from his fur, also teal in color. This was a sign that he was of a Youroi bloodline, but that was thanks to his mother. The Mutatio breed showed in his thoroughly muscled frame.

When he was through with his obnoxious yawn, his teal eyes fell on a solitary figure at a lake's edge. Now Kusu was not at all the shy type, rather he was notable for his loud and show-offy behavior to anyone that would pay attention to him. Perhaps being an Alpha's son had gone to his head.

"Bodacious babe alert," he called out with a lofty, crooked grin. "Surely you don't mean me, right? Got someone else there?"

Yura wrinkled her nose as he approached. She'd smelled this tramp far before she'd seen him, but had never guessed the unpleasant scent was just how he was. She'd figured he'd be carrying soomething dead and decaying in his mouth. How she wished for that to be the case. After all, something in the mouth could be dropped and left behind; body odor carried and dug into the fur like a parasite.

An unclean looking creature, chest puffed and a full head taller than she, stood before her. He was a complete contrast from her cleanly brother and herself, pelts always kept in clean shape, wings always groomed to perfection. This one just seemed as though...he really could not care less. Whether this settled well with Yura or not, she had no idea. Yet.

Hearing his boistrous call, she leapt to her feet, looking from him to her stirring brother. Her ear flat against her head as she shushed him through her teeth. "Can't you see my brother's sleeping? My, you're a loud one." She arched a brow, deep blue eyes sucking in the dirty image before her. She shook her own deep red pelt to rid it of any excess sand and began to slowly circle him.

"Hmm...markings...strange coloration..." As she analyzed, her tail swayed this way and that ever so slowly, keeping time with her footfalls. "What are you, a savage? You smell like one." With a chuckle she made her way to the lake and bent her head to take a drink.

Imaro, although unmoving, had shifted his body sleepily so that he could comfortably watch the two through a half-closed eye. The large wolf, although seemingly relaxed, was poised and ready to attack the newcomer if he showed any sign of hostility.

The snappy female's response undoubtedly went expected, judging by the way he lifted a paw and waggled it, like one brushing away something minorly irritating. "Ah-ha-ha-ha-ha! Can't really see much from here except a cutie!" He stayed put on the little knoll, sitting down like a careless, unyielding young goofball he was likely to be.

"A savage indeed, and the scariest of them all! I am Kusu, defender of Shinkou, terror of Giaku! Savior of pretty females by day, destroyer of nasty demons by night."

He pulled himself up to his fullest height, outrageously mocking a superhero of sorts.

She snorted impatiently as she lifted her head from the lake. Was he honestly thinking he were a savior of a packland? Please. But, she would make no comment about it. Instead she watched as her brother stirred and awakened. Her ear lowered--she'd been wanting him to get some rest for the past few weeks, since he loved losing sleep over making sure Yura remained safe from unknown dangers. And here the poor boy was...awake.

"Are you happy now, Koso?" She asked, spitting out the incorrect name. "My brother needs his sleep if we are to continue moving towards our goal."

Imaro barely moved, his sleepy eyes still locked onto Kusu. He welcomed Yura's concerned nuzzling and returned it with a bit of his own. When she begged for him to return to sleep, he gave Kusu one last dirty look before laying his head down to rest.

Yura paused, waiting for the deep sounds of sleep-breathing to overtake her brother before whipping about. "Listen, whelp, I've no time for some make-believe do-gooder whose main focus seems to be courting females through your irrefutably annoying sense of carelessness. If you've come to irritate me, then congratulations. You've done your job," she grunted, ear turned back in annoyance. "Is there anything I can help you with to expidite your visit so that my brother can rest?"

OOC: Rawr, sorry for shortness. XD

Ears swiveled around to the sound of Yura's brother, seemingly calmly attempting to go back to sleep. Though he did not say it, he felt a small twinge of regret. But he foolishly kept right on going, in his own way attempting to make atonement for his actions.

"Awe, who needs sleep? Especially when the middle of the day is drawing so close? By the way, it's Kusu, and I happen to be eight years old--far from a whelp! Hehehehe..." His eyes practically smiled as did his own lips as he sat back down. "Hey, those aren't my main focus! I'm trying really hard to train so that I could become stronger so I could help my brothers and sisters protect the pack. It's friendly rivalry, you see? It's... kind of expected. Oh, I don't mean to be a bother!" His grin positively widened; perhaps he knew exactly what he was doing. At least he looked meek. "So you say you gotta goal. Anything a fellow pack member can do to help?"

"This one never sleeps," she explained. "Stays up all night to protect his big sister from danger." Her gaze landed on her large brother and a loving smile crept onto her face for a moment before Kusu began speaking again.

Ah. An age-old rivalry, passed down through the generations? The thought brushed against a nostalgic memory in Yura's mind before becoming nothing but a wisp of subconscious thinking. "'Fellow pack member...?'" It seemed as though this one, although aged, was too trusting. Yura began to slowly, dramatically, lower her ear. Time for her performance to begin.

"Well, it's...it's none of your business," she said with a feigned sense of defeat, lowering her head, "but...I'm missing someone." She sat with a puppy-like flop and looked out at the lake that was now painted with the colors of the sun and sky. "A sister. She was so very dear to me..."

Her ear twitched as Imaro uncomfortably shifted in his resting place. So...he was awake. "When we were but one year old, something attacked our home. It claimed her wing and it stole my ear. Being the cowardly crybaby she is, she fled, leaving us all behind. But being the runt of the family, my parents understood that she would die without our care.

"So, I took it upon myself to find her. It's been a year and I barely have her trail. It's almost as if she thinks...I'm the monster." She ignored Imaro's irritated snort as he continued to feign sleep. "Please, Ser," she went on, approaching him with the crouched, respectful look of a low-ranking wolf, "would you help me find her?" Her tail wagged in quick, short wags as it stayed tucked between her legs, her ear flattened, wings barely fluttering and patting against her sides, and her eyes blue and sparkling, attempting to create an unsuspecting minion of him. "I would do anything to know she is safe with our family once more."

Imaro listened until his ears burned with the lies. He would have gotten up to say something, to make her stop, but it wasn't like either of them would hear him, anyhow. Instead, he lolled to his side and opened his bright silver eyes wide to take them in.

All Imaro could do was hope and pray this Kusu was intelligent enough to see past the beauty of this rose and witness its thorns.

((OOC: That's okay! :3 Sorry if mine seems...kinda lame. xD))

OOC: Yours isn't lame at all! n.n I'm really enjoying this rp. Again I apologize for responding so slowly, lately I've been working my butt off doing stuff to the forum. [image] I'm going to be working on it a bit again today, so... I'm so sorry ><

Just as Yura had expected, Kusu stood at attention and listened as closely as he could, trying his hardest not to goof off and crack jokes about the situation.

"That's mighty brave of your brother," he commented with a kind smile. "Guess I have a new rival, hmm?" He winked, those teal eyes the only nice thing to look at compared to the rest of his disheveled appearance. "But in Shinkou and Akeru Ookami, your safety is guaranteed. We help one another combat evil forces. Our packlands are probably the safest in the world." He puffed out his chest, unable to obscure the pride showing on every fiber of his being. "Wolves are out to get us all the time, but we have scouts that report anything suspicious to the awesome alphas, and the warriors get there in a flash to confront whoever it is."

He paused, thinking of what next to say. "As for your sister, I understand," he began, wracking his brain for the right thing to say. "I'll do everything in my power to help a fellow wolf in distress." He tilted his head at Yura's gestures. "I may be an alpha's son, but there's no need to act like that around me. Ha-ha-ha-ha...!"

((Oh, you're fine! I figured you're probably busy with something. I'm a patient person when it comes to roleplays. x3 ))

Yura gave a bright smile, wagging her tail a little more freely, however remaining in her crouched state. "You'll help me? Oh, you have no idea how grateful I am!" What a catch! Who knew their current resting spot would hold such promise? the packlands he mentioned sounded quite large. If he were to give an order for his scouts to search for the one-winged whelp, there would be nowhere for her to turn. I can almost taste her blood now...

Snapping back to attention, she caught the tail end of his comment about her crouching. "Well, I realize how rude I'm acting towards such a figure of power. Forgive me."

Enough. Imaro rose to his feet, immediately displaying his abnormally large size to the newcomer. As Yura finally straightened, he made his way to her side, showing he stood a full head and shoulders taller than she, a two-year-old wolf. His silver eyes were narrowed with disappointment as he looked from Kusu to Yura. Despite his stature and age, Kusu had still fallen for her rouse. Weren't alphas and sons and daughters of alphas supposed to be as wise as the gods themselves?

"Ah! Little brother!" Her smile brightened as she placed a loving paw on his massive head. He snorted, but did not contest the silly action. "This is Imaro. Say hello, little one." Imaro finally pulled away from Yura's paw and nodded, fluffing his eagle-like feathers a moment. "What, I can't call you 'little one' anymore?"

Imaro arched a brow at her and stretched a wing, almost as if he were attempting to show how short Yura was. In protest, she flicked her tail. "I don't care if I'm shorter than you now. You're still my little brother."

Moving with careless steps, Kusu made his way down the grassy knoll. Once his paws reached the soft, sandy beach, his ears tilted at an angle at Yura's words. At first he looked a bit puzzled, then graced her with an understanding smile. "Well lets not be too hasty here, first and foremost I should mention that even though I'm an alpha's son, I hold very, very little power. Heh..." A sloppy grin spread across his face, a little embarrassed at having to tell her something like that. "Otherwise I'm just like every other wolf. Huzzah! That and, I'm sure Mom couldn't trust me with power. Heck, I can barely hold down a girlfriend..." His dropped his head and sighed dramatically, then snapped it back up again, positively beaming.

Kusu followed Yura to the spot Imaro was supposedly dozing at. He remembered his manners and kept a respectful distance, looking upon Imaro with great curiosity. "Seems like he could be an older brother, heh," he smiled, his way of greeting. "I'm Koso--I mean, Kusu. Ha-ha-ha-ha!" He plopped onto his rump and scratched his head with a hind leg, desperate to distract anyone paying attention from the mistake. He'll blame Yura later for messing with his head about his name earlier.

She ignored his words about lacking much power. Anyone who even stood beside the alphas--let alone shared their blood--had a smidgen of influence. At least, that's how politics worked in her eyes.

Imaro smiled a wily, toothy grin at Kusu's next statement, waving his wing in the air to show how short Yura was. She snorted, ignoring him. "He'd seem more like an elder brother if he wasn't so...immature." Looking shot down, Imaro put his wing away and made a face at her.

At Kusu's greeting, Imaro nodded again, chuckling silently as he stumbled over his own name. His silver eyes shot up and down, taking in the supposed alpha's son, before turning to Yura, waving a paw in the air. "What?" She asked. Imaro tilted his head and jerked it in Kusu's direction. He then shook his head and stood up straight like a proud and high-ranking wolf. He waited for Yura's reaction before he relaxed.

Yura paused, a confused look on her face. Then..."Oh!" Yura seemed to understand and laughed. "He asked me if I was sure you're an alpha. 'After all, he doesn't look like it.'" Her blue eyes softened as she took a step towards Kusu. "Perhaps you should introduce us to your family sometime, Ser Kusu. Seeing is believing, after all, yes?"

In order to use this old goon to her advantage, she'd need to play on his weaknesses. But what were they? Ego? Beauty? Food, even? It would be painful, but she would have to take her time and uncover each piece of Kusu bit by bit...

Unfortunately Kusu was not always so modest. Unable to hold it in much longer, he sat down in the most regal pose he could muster (which ended up making him look more like a joke than anything), licking a paw like a Persian cat. With apparent relish, he examined his claws on his wolfish fingers, a small hint of melancholy seen on the lines of his face.

"My Mom is busy, always busy. As for my Dad, well, he's no longer here with us. So chancing a meeting with my Mom will be a little difficult. Maybe you can meet her during one of our bonfires. It's a great way of meeting one another and talking. She'll be available then. And the bonfire isn't be too far off. Usually my aunt and uncle, Raven and Goth, do the honors of making a fire, but it's usually whoever with a high rank gets there first." He closed his eyes in thought, proceeding to roll his shoulders. "Me? An alpha?" His eyes opened as he looked at them both. He had a smile in them. "Hey, is that guy shy much? I haven't heard him speak this whole time." He stuck out a tongue while grinning. "I don't bite! Much, hehehehe."

Tilting her head to the side, she adopted a look of slight regret. "I'm sorry to hear that," she murmured as she watched him lick his paw. What was he, a mountain lion? Her eyes moved to the lake once more. She would never find the fledgeling at this pace. Her heart would have sank if it weren't for his next phrase.

"Bonfire...?" Confusion settled in, making her wrinkle her nose in thought. She could easily discern the word "fire," but what was a "bon?" Whatever it was, it sounded exciting. And it seemed as though it would be a huge gathering, so there would be more than enough wolves to alert about her missing sister. "I'll be sure to attend!"

Imaro's ears pricked up at Kusu's question a moment before lowering in embarassment. Turning his head, he pressed his face into Yura's side. She laughed softly at his shyness. "He's mute. Never spoke a day in his life." Imaro pressed his face into her a little more. "He doesn't like it, but I think it's a very charming quality," she added, looking down at him.

The sun's dying light painted the area in a vibrant orange as it disappeared into the lake, birds flitting about to make it home before dark. "By the way," Yura murmured, "how come you came out all this way? Let me guess, we were intruding on your packlands and you came to investigate?"

"Wha? Oh no, nothing like that. I just saw a cute babe as I was going over that hill over there and thought I should take advantage of the opportunity to say hi. Of course I got far too distracted to get a chance to flirt with you. Or take a dip in the ocean like I originally planned. Honestly? I didn't know you were new here. There's a lot of wolves I haven't met yet, because we have--" He paused for dramatic effect, and said in a scary, monotone voice, "--sooo maaaany meeembers. Some come in right under my nose, but I assume everyone's a member until I meet them any way."

Clearly Kusu did not mingle in the affairs of newcomers. With his carefree demeanor, Yura and Imaro being new seem to bother him at all.

"A mute, eh? That's so weird! No, I meant no offense," he added quickly, chuckling. "My little cousin happens to be mute, too. Born without a voice. My other cousin, his brother, was born blind. It's kind of fun messing around with them both... I know it's mean, but they don't mind it too much. They're pretty easygoing about their situation, and when they're together, they act like one person." He brought his voice to a whisper. "It's pretty scary." Bringing his voice back to normal, he stood up and shook out his coat before inquiring, "What did you say your name was again? I remember Imaro's..."

Hm. A hint, perhaps? Although there was hardly any interest in this Kusu, his compliment put a demure smile on her face and her eyes softened, even if it was for a brief moment.

Imaro lifted his head from his sister's side and narrowed his eyes at the high-ranking son's advances. He opened his mouth as if to say something, but clamped it shut with an angry snort.

Yura finally wagged her tail slowly and fluffed her feathers as she leaned towards Kusu. "Well, I'm honored such a handsome, up-and-coming wolf would look in my direction." With a dramatic pause, she held her gaze on him a moment, enjoying the smile that suddenly made its way back to her face. Then, she moved closer to the lake, carefully dipping her paws in as he spoke of his many new pack members.

Imaro kept a stern gaze on Kusu, not impressed by the amount of members they received into their pack. It isn't a pack if they only find a bond with one another through a pack's name alone. It sounds like more of an army than anything, he wanted to say. But who was he to think such a thing? After all, most of his life was with his small family of five. His eyes narrowed further at Kusu's remarks about his deaf and blind cousins. Something about it just...irked him.

The deep red femme stepped tentatively into the water, watching as it slowly made its chilly way up her knees and chest. "Hm..." That was all. The only reaction concerning the members. Her voice was moderately affected by the chill of the water, a slight shaking in her voice. Then... "My name?" With a strange fire in her eyes, she turned to him and smiled, giving him a wink. "It's Yura."
